Bienvenue

WELCOME

Chamonix is a small mountain town tucked into the French Alps, not far from the borders of Italy and Switzerland. It is known for being home to Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps, and is world-renowned for its skiing, trail running, and other mountain activities.

TRIP ESSENCE

This is a base-camp style trip, as opposed to a hut-to-hut style trip. We will spend 5 nights in Chamonix, France followed by 2 nights in Courmayeur, Italy, running some of the most beautiful trails in each area. Between our two stays, we will have a rest day in Chamonix, allowing us to not only rest, but to also see or do something apart from our running itinerary.

Mountain Running:

We reference this trip as a “mountain running” trip because running in the mountains oftentimes looks a lot different than running on roads or on less-technical trails. Mountain running can include steep, technical, and rocky terrain, therefore moving through this terrain includes many different forms. Sometimes we’re moving fast with small rapid steps, sometimes we’re using our hands on steep inclines, sometimes we’re side-stepping piles of cow poop in a field! Mountain running holds an element of adventure that brings a little bit of extra freedom into the act of running and that’s why we love it.

itinerary

On this 8 day trail running trip, we will be traversing world-famous and well loved trails near the towns of Chamonix and Courmayeur. We will cover approximately 50-60 miles over 5 days of running, with a built in rest day. This trip also includes professional form coaching prior to and during the trip with a custom training plan.

DAY 1 - Arrival Day

We will pick you up from Geneva, Switzerland, and make the beautiful drive through the mountains to the famous town of Chamonix. After taking some time to explore the the town, we will have a welcome dinner.

DAY 2 - Balcon Du Nord

We will begin our day with a ride up the iconic Aiguille du Midi into the Mont Blanc Massif. Our run begins from the mid station and we will make our way to Mer du Glace, a valley glacier on the Mont Blanc Massif.  We will then make our way back down to the town of Chamonix.

9.5 miles - 1,000 ft ↑ 4,500 ft ↓

DAY 3 - Pointe De Lapaz

Today we will run on the opposite side of the valley from yesterday, to the high point of Pointe de Lapaz. We’ll have views of Mont Blanc and glacial valleys before we loop back to town.
11 miles - 4,600 ft ↑↓

DAY 4 - Col de Balme

This classic Chamonix trail run will guide us along the Tour du Mont Blanc up to a wide open grassy saddle with views of both sides of the Chamonix Valley.

DAY 5- Rest Day in Chamonix

The day is yours! Today we will host an optional shorter group run, but you could also take advantage of the hotel spa, explore town, rent a bike, or take the cable car up to Aguille du Midi.

DAY 6 - Pointe de Charmonts

Today we will travel to Courmayeur, Italy. We’ll have views of Mont Blanc from the Italian side while cruising on gorgeous single-track trail. This day will be big but well worth the effort.

14 miles | 4,000 ft ↑ 6,500 ft ↓

DAY 7 - Val Ferret

Some say this trail is the most runnable trail in the Alps with constant views of Mont Blanc. And there will be an opportunity for a dip in the creek after our run! Another big day that will be well worth the effort for the stunning beauty.

Mercuria Coaches Brittany, Jenni, and Keri-Ann

JENNI NETTIK

Jenni Nettik founded Mercuria Running in 2012. She’s a life-long lover of the outdoors -- growing up in Montana, running, hiking, and camping. Jenni has a background in the arts, she attended art school at Carnegie Mellon University where she gained a strong appreciation for contemporary art, conceptual art and art installations. Prior to starting Mercuria Running, Jenni taught art for 10 years all across the country -- from Texas to Boston to Colorado.

Becoming a running coach was a natural transition for Jenni, she’s been a runner her entire life. Her first memory of running was racing at recess in first grade. When she beat all the boys, she knew she must be fast, and started training by running laps around the park in her backyard & “coaching” her classmates after school on a team they named “Runners for Fun”.

Jenni ran her first marathon, the Vermont City Marathon, in 2006. While training for the race she combined her love of art and running by documenting the process with a small painting for each training run, drawing a parallel between the practice that goes into both art and sport.

As a coach, Jenni draws from her unique background to keep running fun. She encourages athletes to keep running in perspective -- while building mental strategies, healthy form, consistency and intention. Jenni works with all levels of athletes from beginners to elite.
